Mary Ellen Vajravelu, MD MSHP

Dr. Vajravelu is a pediatric endocrinologist in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh. She treats all pediatric endocrine conditions and has special expertise in management of obesity and type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents. Her research aims to develop optimal treatment strategies for youth and young adults with obesity, prediabetes, and type 2 diabetes that overcome real-world barriers. Current and past projects include development of digital health-based interventions to increase physical activity, community-partnered interventions to address health-related social needs, and characterization of social risk factors for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in youth.

Dr. Vajravelu enjoys mentoring trainees of all levels and collaborating with investigators across disciplines.
